The genre which produced the most films in 2013-14 was Drama as it accounted for 20% of releases however only shared 5% with the box office. The top earning drama was 12 years a slave.
There were 141 dramas produced however there percentage of box office was very low in proportion to the amount of their releases.
There were 34 animations released in 2014 and 43 action films.
This information tells me that comedy is very valued from uk audiences as well as a sense of thrill shown in action, even though the drama only shared 5% with the box office it shows it is a really interesting and exciting genre to make.
Animation has done very well due to the fact that many children watch all types of animation when new films are realised and if you want to do a successful children film animation is the way to go.
Drama does however fall very much into the middle of rankings of genres so if it was a hybrid with action or thriller it may attract a aider audience.

The top 3 films for the 7-14 age group was Home, Big hero and minions this immediately tells us that for that age group the preferred genre is animation. The reason why the 3 most popular films with the 35-44 year olds may of been Frozen, The Croods and Jack and the Giant Slayer is probably due to the fact that adults take their children to the cinema so for that they also need to buy a ticket for themselves and watch the movie.

The films that were most popular with the middle class audiences were 'The Hunger Games', Mad Max: Fury Road', Legend, Hotel Transylvania 2, Home and Pitch Perfect 2.
In Scotland there was a large percentage compared to England who had an interest in ' The Theory Of Everything' where as England showed interest in less fictional films which could tell us that people in England are more likely to watch non-fictional, made-up films and Scotland possibly prefers biography/documentaries and fictional films.
I also find it really interesting that disabled people are less likely to go the cinema and are more likely to use other methods of watching films such as buying or renting videos, or digitally buying and renting films. As well as caucasian people in the uk ,in contrast to this ethnicities such as black, Asian and mixed are more likely to watch a film in the cinema then to use the other methods.
I also found it very interesting that Sci-fi took more money per cinema on average than other genres in 2015 mainly due to the record breaking success of the top film of the year Star Wars: The Force Awakens: this is because it shows the effect a film can have on a nation, a world.
